Macca's record half a billion dollar 2022 shopping list ($598m NZ primary industry)
McDonald's New Zealand has revealed it spent a record $598 million purchasing products from New Zealand's primary industry producers during 2022, underlining the significant economic impact of franchise food operations on local supply chains.
The impressive figure represents a substantial increase on previous years, reflecting both growth in the McDonald's network and the company's commitment to sourcing locally.
Key purchases included New Zealand beef, chicken, dairy products, lettuce, potatoes, and other fresh produce. The company works with hundreds of local suppliers across the country.
"We are proud to support New Zealand's primary industries," said McDonald's NZ Managing Director. "When Kiwis buy a Big Mac or a McChicken, they're supporting local farmers and producers across the country."
McDonald's operates over 170 restaurants across New Zealand, employing more than 10,000 people. The brand continues to be one of the country's largest franchise operations and a significant contributor to local economies.
The figures demonstrate the broader economic impact of franchise systems on New Zealand's primary industries and supply chains.
